Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to injury from unintended actuation of the shear: a) Detail Shop - No guard was provided over the foot treadle on the BERTSCH metal shear. This exposed employees to injury in the event of unintended actuation of the machine. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to provide a cover over that portion of the foot treadle that is not protected by the work table.
