29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i): The employer did not select and have each affected employee use, the types of personal protective equipment that would protect the affected employee(s) from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment: PLATING DEPARTMENT: On or about and at times prior to February 7, 2017, the employer did not require employees to use the personal protective equipment appropriate for the tasks they were responsible for conducting: 1. On the Hand Line, employees wore cotton gloves and short-sleeve shirts while manually dipping racks of parts into and out of the treatment tanks which contained chemicals including, but not limited to corrosive acid, nickel, trivalent chromium, and/or cyanide complexes. Based on the tasks assigned, employees should be wearing chemical resistant gloves and arm covers to protect them form chemical exposure. 2. On the ZDC Line, employees wore sneakers while lifting racks of parts onto overhead conveyors. Depending upon the parts that were loaded, the racks could weigh 25-55 pounds. Employees should be wearing steel toe shoes or overboots.
