29 CFR 1926.52(a): Protection against the effects of noise exposure shall be provided when the sound levels exceed those shown in Table D-2 of this section when measured on the A-scale of a standard sound level meter at slow response. a) Sandblaster/Painter exposed to continuous noise at 367% of the permissible daily noise (eight hour time weighted average sound level 90 decibels) or equivalent sound level of approximately 99.3 decibels during the 253 minutes of sampling period was not wearing hearing protection. b) Sandblaster/Painter exposed to continuous noise at 362% of the permissible daily noise (eight hour time weighted average sound level of 90 decibels) or equivalent sound level of approximately 99.2 decibels during the 255 minutes of sampling period was not wearing hearing protection. c) Pot Tender/ Supervisor exposed to noise at 266% of the permissible daily noise level (eight hour time weighted average sound level of 90 decibels) or equivalent sound level of approximately 97.0 decibels during the 260 minutes of sampling period was not wearing hearing protection correctly.
