Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2): The employer shall instruct each employee in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to his work environment to control or eliminate any hazards or other exposure to illness or injury. a) On May 16, 2012 at the job site located at the intersection of 25th Street and Moffet Avenue in Joplin, MO, an employee was exposed to a struck-by hazard in that the employee had not been trained to recognize and avoid the unsafe condition which results from a pipe being cut using a powered cut-off machine in a trench while that pipe is not supported to prevent it from shifting. Abatement certification is required for this item - use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose, and, in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
