Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees. 1.On June 11, 2014, an employee of Trulite used a 7 foot fiber glass Husky "A" Frame ladder in the closed position, leaned against a wall as an extension ladder, to access an attic hatch in the ceiling approximately 9 feet above the floor. Using the ladder in this manner exposed the employee to fall hazards that could potentially result in contusions, lacerations, and fractures. 2.On June 11, 2014, an employee of Trulite used the top step and top plate of an unidentified 4 foot orange and black fiber glass ladder. The Ladder was used to access the exterior roof, thereby exposing the employee to fall hazards that could potentially result in injuries including contusions, lacerations, and fractures. Reference: American National Standard for Ladders - Portable Ladders - Portable Reinforced Plastic - Safety Requirements [American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A14.5-2000] 9.3.1.2 Self-supporting ladders shall not be used as single ladders or in the partially closed position. 9.3.2 Climbing and Working Locations. The user shall climb or work with the body near the middle of the step of the rung. The user shall not step or stand higher than the step or rung indicated on the label marking the highest standing level of a ladder. The user shall not step or stand on: One feasible means of abatement would be to utilize a ladder appropriate for the heights and conditions present at the location in question.
