Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: UNCLASS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: Titan Drilling, LLC., Rig 4, NPDF 22-1, Hartley County, TX. For the period of time up to and including 09/01/11, an auxiliary means of escape was not available for employees working in the derrick. API Recommended Practice 54, Third Edition, April 1999, Reaffirmed March 2007, titled "Recommended Practice for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Drilling and Servicing Operations", states in Section 6, Paragraph 6.10.01, "On all land rigs, the derrick or mast shall have an auxiliary means of escape installed prior to personnel working in the derrick." Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure an auxiliary means of escape is installed on the escape line prior to personnel working in the derrick.l
