Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while standing on the guardrails of the work platform attached to rough terrain forklift without fall protection: On the northside of the building, employees engaged in steel erection activities did not utilize fall protection while straddled over the top rail of the shop made platform attached to the SkyTrak Rough Terrain Forklift to work on the side of the building. This condition exposed employees to fall hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to require employees to maintain firm footing on the platform floor in accordance to American National Standards Institute (ASME) B56.6-2002, Safety standards for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks. Disclaimer: 1. You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above. 2. The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases. 3. The employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out an appropriate method of abatement.
