Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees performing tree trimming and removal, from unforeseen tree movement/falling during cutting operations. (a)On October, 06, 2010, an employee of Osage Valley Electric Cooperative, 1321 N Orange Butler, Missouri, was fatally injured when the tree he was cutting with a chain saw split, kicked back, and struck the employee. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Ensure compliance with ANSI 133.8.5.14 requirements that notches shall be used on all trees and trunks greater than 5 inches in diameter at breast height.
