Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to caustic soda leaks from a deteriorating storage tank: On or about January 4, 2010, and times prior thereto, employees working in the chemical area were exposed to a storage tank containing caustic soda which showed evidence of damage and leakage at a seam of the storage tank. This condition exposed employees to a highly corrosive liquid while working in this area. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to repair or replace the storage tank containing caustic soda.
