Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of falling off the top rail of a personnel platform that was elevated with a rough terrain forklift: a)On the east side of the building, on or about August 17, 2011 an employee was sitting on the top rail of the platform that was elevated with a rough terrain forklift, resulting in an eight-foot fall hazard. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees maintain firm footing on an elevated platform unless secured by a body belt and lanyard, as required by ANSI B56.6, Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks.t
