Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: At Puerto Rico Wire Products, Inc., shop employees repared and painted industrial equipment using the following products: thinner, nason paints, solvents, oils and diesel among other chemicals substances. The chemical substances in these products could cause nose, throat, eye, and skin irritation. The label of these products indicated in case of eye contact, flush inmediately with water for at least 15 minutes. There was an eyewash station ZEE mark wich provides 3-4 minutes of wash action, indicating the manufacturer's instructions. The American National Standard Z358.1-1990 7.1.4 emergency eye/face wash equipment shall be capable of delivering flushing fluid to the eyes and face not less than 11.4 liters per minute (3.0 gallons per minute) for 15 minutes. Hazard: Aggravated eyes injuries, by contact with contaminated water. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to place an eyewash station that meets the requirements of The American National Standard Z358.1-1990 7.1.4 emergency eye/face wash equipment shall be capable of delivering flushing fluid to the eyes and face not less than 11.4 liters per minute (3.0 gallons per minute) for 15 minutes. En el taller de Puerto Rico Wire Products Inc., los empleados reparaban y pintaban equipos industriales usando los siguientes productos: thinner, pinturas nason, solventes, aceites y diesel entre otras sustancias quimicas. Las sustancias quimicas en los productos podian acusar irritacion nariz, garganta, ojos y piel. En la etiqueta de estos productos indicaba en caso de contacto con los ojos, lavar con abundante agua por lo menos 15 minutos. Habia una estacion de lavado de ojos marca ZEE que proporcionaba de 3-4 minutos de accion de lavado, indicaba las instrucciones del manufacturero. El American National Standard Z358.1-1990 establece que la estacion de lavado de cara/ojos debe suministrar el liquido de lavado de cara y ojos no menos de 11.4 litros (3.0 galones por minutos) durante 15 minutos. Riesgo: Lesion agravada en ojos, por contacto con material contaminado. Entre otros metodos, un metodo razonable y aceptable de corregir este riesgo es colocar una estacion de lavado de ojos que cumpla con los requisitos que establece El American National Standard Z358.1-1990 7.1.4 la estacion de lavado de ojos debe suministrar el liquido de lavado no menos de 11.4 litros por minutos (3.0 galones por minutos) durante15 minutos.5
