Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about January 25, 2010, and at times prior thereto, at the establishment located at 1100 West 15th Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas, an employee was not wearing a seat belt while operating a powered industrial truck , exposing the employee and employees working or walking in the area to the hazards of being thrown from and/or crushed by the vehicle. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees buckle their seat belts each time they operate a powered industrial truck as required by the ANSI/ASME B56.1 "Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks", Article 5.3.19 which states: "An active operator protection device or system, when provided, shall be used".
