Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards which were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed contacting lower level or other obstructions in a fall as to: (a)On or about September 23, 2009 at the worksite, employees were allowed to use a body harness with a six-foot lanyards and a 55 inch deceleration devise while working in an aerial lift at elevations of 15 feet which would allow employees to strike the floor or equipment if employees fell from the aerial lift. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Provide and require the use of a positioning device that would require the employee's feet to remain firmly on the floor of the basket and thereby prevent the employee from falling out of the basket. For other forms of abatement, reference ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2007, paragraphs 7.1.1 and 7.1.2.
