Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by trusses: (a)Job Site: On April 19, 2010, while employees were performing hoisting and installation of residential roof trusses they were exposed to struck by hazards when lifting 8 each 31 foot long wood trusses by a single pick point with a double legged wire rope sling. NOTE 1) Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct the hazard would be to follow the manufacturer's recommendations on roof truss erection and the Building Component Safety Information 2008 edition, Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss NOTE 2) Abatement certification required for this item.
