Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about July 29, 2009, and at times prior thereto, with respect to the jobsite located at 251 North First Street in Jacksonville, Arkansas, employees were observed working from a personnel platform mounted to a Caterpillar Model TH63 rough terrain forklift ad the platform was not secured to the forks, a condition that exposed the employees tot he hazards of falls from elevation and to the hazards of being struck by the platform in the event it slipped off the forks. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to comply with the requirements of ANSI B56.6 Section 5.15.1 "Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklifts", which states "be certain that the platform is securely attached to the lifting carriage and forks".
