Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crane/hoist control pendants that had not been marked as to the intended use of each button: a) Gasbarre Products, Inc. --- Cranes and Hoists --- On or about 10/14/10, pendant control boxes were not marked to indicate the function of the control buttons. The pendants for these cranes/hoists were located in areas that included but were not limited to A-Bay, B-Bay, C-Bay, D-Bay, and E-Bay. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct the condition include but are not limited to: 1) Complying with the applicable requirements noted in ASME B30.11 Monorails and Underhung Cranes and/or ASME B30.16 - Hoists 2) Replace missing or illegible function labels on pendant control stations. 3) Label markings should be standardized throughout the facility and/or work area per ASME B30.11 and ASME B30.16. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED: Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of the abatement. Abatement documentation shall include documents demonstration that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
