Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to caught in and/or struck by hazards: a.Sulzer Metco Coating: The main control panel for a robotics spraying booth operation was not located outside the robot system work envelope in sight of the robot, exposing employees to potential struck-by hazards, as determined on or about 03/05/09. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable means to abate this hazard is to locate the main control panel in sight of the robot per Section A-5 of OSHA INSTRUCTION PUB 8-1.3 SEP, 1987, OFFICE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR ROBOTIC SAFETY.
