Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to struck- by hazards from roof truss damage and failure: (a)On or about December 12, 2008, and at times prior thereto, trusses were exposed to point loading and damage when employees were placing 60 foot span trusses using a single pick-point at the peak. NOTE: Feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard would be to follow the Building Component Safety Information BCSI B-1 Summary Sheet - Guide for Handling, Installing and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, issued by the Wood Truss Council of America and the Truss Plate Institute. Single trusses between 30 feet and 60 feet must use a spreader bar with lines that slope inward or "toe-in" to prevent the truss from buckling. NOTE: Abatement Certification IS required for this item.
