Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from damaged ladders. (a)On or about August 6, 2009 next to the maintenance area, an extension ladder was damaged and not taken out of service. Reference for ladders ANSI A14.5-2000 Portable Reinforced Plastic - Safety Requirements, Section 9.4 Care, sub-subsections 9.4.1 Inspection, and 9.4.2 Damaged Ladders. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Conduct periodic (daily) inspections of ladders as required by Section 9.4 of ANSI A14.5-2000.
