Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to struck by and crushing hazards: (a)Bay 3, a spreader beam, used as a below-the-hook device is set-up with two 35 Ton Overhead Cranes did not have the rated load marked or identification on the manufacturer and serial number exposing employees to crushing or struck by injuries. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct these hazards are to use a safer alternate method such as: 1.Implement the requirements as defined in ASME B30.20a-2001, Section 20-1.2.1 (a): Rated Load. The rated load of the lifting device shall be marked on the main structure where it is visible. If the lifting device is made up of several lifters, each detachable from the group, these lifters shall also be marked with their individual rated loads, and Section 20-1.2.1 (b) Identification. A nameplate or other permanent marking shall be affixed displaying the following information: (1) manufacturer's name and address; (2) serial number; (3) lifter weight, if over 100 lbs (45 kg); (4) rated load. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
