Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: HEAT

North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)Heat Treat area -- load tests were not performed on two 1/4 ton Coffing jib hoists and a TMM 300 pound hoist (cranes) prior to their being placed into operation. b)Maintenance area -- a 1/2 ton floor crane and a 1 ton A-Frame hoist (crane) were not load tested prior to being placed into operation. c)Scrap Dock area -- a 1/2 ton Hercules floor crane was not load tested prior to being placed into operation. Reference:ANSI B30.11 - 1998, Chapter 11-2, Section 11-2.2, Paragraph 11-2.2.2.1(a). Prior to initial use all new, altered, or modified hoists (cranes) shall be load tested. NOTE:Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to have all overhead hoists (cranes) load tested.)
