Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the employees are exposed to being struck by the refuse truck they are riding or a vehicle operating behind them: a) Chatam Lane, Port Richey - On or about 5/25/07 - the employer had modified refuse truck, license plate number N9181L, by installing a riding step across the rear of the truck. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to modify the refuse truck in accordance to ANSI Z245.1 - 1999, Mobile Wastes and Recyclable Materials Collection, Transportation, and Compaction Equipment - Safety Requirements, specifically by: ensuring that the riding steps do not extend beyond the rearmost structural portion of the vehicle(Paragraph 7.2.9 (f) of ANSI Z254.1 - 1999).
