Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire hazards: (a) Fiberglass Department, Small Spray Booth, South End - the six automatic water sprinkler heads inside the Binks dry filter spray booth were protected by polyethylene (plastic) bags to protect the sprinkler heads from overspray residue. The plastic bags would melt in event of a fire causing the sprinkler heads not to operate quickly. (b) Fiberglass Department, Large Spray Booth, North End - the six automatic water sprinkler heads inside the Binks dry filter spray booth were protected by polyethylene (plastic) bags to protect the sprinkler heads from overspray residue. The plastic bags would melt in event of a fire causing the sprinkler heads not to operate quickly. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes but is not limited to the following: In accordance with National Fire Protection Association 33 Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials - 2007 edition, Section 9.4.7.1 " Sprinklers shall be permitted to be covered only by cellophane bags having a thickness of 0.08 mm or less or by thin paper bags. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
