Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of crushing injuries. Greycore Industrial Contractors, Inc. employees working at Duck Creek Power Station were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a load suspended from a crane because the lifting beam was not designed by or under the direct supervision of a qualified person. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is should verify that the structural and mechanical lifting device is designed by or under direct supervision of a qualified person in accordance with ASME B30.20-2006, American Society of Mechanical Engineers for Below-the Hook lifting devices, Section 20-1.2. ***Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c)***
