North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Facility, plating lines #1-#10: Ten underhung monorail crane systems with one hoist each were not inspected periodically, (annually). REF:ANSI B30.11-1998, Chapter 11-2, Paragraph 11-2.1.3 (a)Periodic inspections shall be performed at intervals defined in para. 11-2.1.1(b)(2): Visual inspection by an appointed person making records of apparent external conditions to provide the basis for a continuing evaluation, as follows: normal service, equipment in place -- annually. (c)A qualified person shall examine any deficiencies found during the inspection to determine whether conditions found constitute a hazard, require disassembly for further inspection, or require replacement. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to conduct periodic inspections (annual) on the monorail crane systems per the requirements of section 11-2.1.3 of ANSI B30-11-1998.
