Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck or crushed by windows: (a) At the site - employees were removing windows from a 45 foot long trailer that was filled with rows of windows that measured 5'2" wide, 5'2" long, 2 " thick and weighed approximately 60 lbs each, to prepare the windows for the impending installation. Windows were stacked in rows side by side. When a window was being removed for installation preparation, the other windows started to fall, pinning employees to the side of the trailer, on or about 10/18/06. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abating this condition include, but are not limited to: storing the windows in the trailer securely, in a manner that prevents them from sliding, falling, or collapsing.
