Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that were exposed to: the struck-by hazards associated with moving vehicles when glare is present: a. On or about January 17, 2007, at the above addressed worksite, an employee operated a front- end loader in an open yard area east of building D, at night. A yard light on the shop building was placed in a position which allowed it to shine light into the eyes of the employee operating a front-end loader. The light created glare which reduced the operator's ability to see. Other employees in the open yard area were exposed to struck-by hazards associated with moving vehicles. A feasible means of abatement would be to relocate the yard light so that glare would not occur as recommended by Section 14.2 of the ANSI/IESNA RP-7-01. NOTE: 29 CFR 1903.19 REQUIRES THAT YOU PROVIDE CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS ITEM.
