Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: At the jobsite on or about 02/22/07 the employer provided a well servicing structure (work- over rig) for employees use during a well service operation without a means of auxiliary escape when and employee was working in the derrick or mast. The employee was exposed to the type of hazards associated with the inability to escape from the derrick or mast during an emergency situation. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to assure the rig is rigged up in a safe manner in accordance with API Recommended Practice 54, Recommended Practice for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations, section 6.10, Auxiliary Escape.
