Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by the forklift in the event of overturn or upset: a.Site - The Gradall 534C-9 material handler was no longer equipped with seat belts. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to prohibit riders other than the operator, as indicated by the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers document ASME/ANSI B56.6-1992, Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks.
