Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of fall: (a)Highway 27 South - During the period April 1-21, 2006 two employees were exposed to fall hazard while riding on a utility trailer that was towed by pick-up truck on an open highway outside of a work zone. Employees were sitting on the bed of the utility trailer at rear with no devices to prevent the employees from falling off the trailer. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO NOT ALLOW EMPLOYEES TO RIDE ON UTILITY TRAILERS.
