Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a drowning hazard: On or about 09/22/05, at or near Saddle Club Drive and Weston Road in Bonaventure, Florida an employee operating a Vermeer Tractor/Trencher, model V-450, was exposed to a drowning hazard when descending a steep slope while the tractor was not in gear, causing the tractor to go into the lake and rolling over. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train all employees to keep the tractor in gear when descending a slope as required by the equipment Operator's Manual, specifically, "Always keep the tractor in gear when descending hills". PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
