Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire hazards due to accumulation of combustible trash and debris in the pit of an elevator. On or about June 3, 2004, there was an accumulation of combustible trash and other debris at the bottom of the pit of elevator #95309 in Building 2 at 153 Hamlet Avenue. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to have a licensed elevator technician clean the pit area of this elevator and maintain it in accordance with Section 8.6.4.7 of ASME A17.1-2004, Safety Code For Elevators and Escalators.
