Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CUTS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees in that the employees were exposed to cuts and lacerations due to the exposed end of the wire rope: (a) CDX-DART Drilling, at the Smith Rancho #2 wellsite, Moffat, County, CO: On or before December 27, 2004, the employer did not ensure that the end strands of the splice on the wire rope that anchored the winch were covered or blunted, thereby exposing 10 or more employees to a cutting hazard in the event someone touched the wire rope splice. The splice was above the rig floor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to blunt or cover the wire rope end.
