Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the conditions listed below: Lariat Services, Inc., West Ranch 6-30 Rig #2, Fort Stockton, TX. For the period of time up to and including 05/01/06, an auxiliary means of escape, such as a Geronimo line, was not installed prior to personnel working in the derrick. API Recommended Practice 54, Third Edition, April 1999, titled "Recommended Practice for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Drilling and Servicing Operations", states in Section 6, part 6.10.1 "On all land rigs, the derrick or mast shall have an auxiliary means of escape installed prior to personnel working in the derrick" Feasible and acceptable abatement methods would include: Ensure an auxiliary means of escape, such as a Geronimo line is installed prior to personnel working in the derrick.
