Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: Roscoe Coop Gin: On 1/05/06, and times prior thereto, employees were exposed to fire and struck-by hazards while working in the gin facility where acetylene and oxygen cylinders were stored adjacent to each other and not secured. Under the American National Standard Z49.1 1973, paragraph 3.2.3.3 states, "Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders, reserve stocks of carbides, or highly combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one- half hour".
