Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards from hydraulic fluid that mixes with hot aluminum causing smoke or fire. (a)On or about 6/2/04 and times prior thereto employees in the casting area are exposed to smoke or fire when hydraulic fluid mixes with hot aluminum, and the employer has not shielded the hydraulic lines from the hot aluminum metal or used fire resistant hydraulic fluid. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to Shield the hydraulic lines from the hot aluminum, or use fire resistant hydraulic fluid. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
