Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to strain/sprain hazards: At this location, in the Shipping and Receiving department, employees were exposed to the hazard of strains and sprains. The dockboard provided for employee use did not extend into the back of the bobtail truck causing employees to use excessive force to pull and push 1500 lb. pallets into and out of the truck. The dockboard was placed on the bumper of the truck which caused employees to have to force the pallet jack loaded with a 1500 lb. pallet over the lip of the truck bed. One feasible means of abatement would be to provide a dockboard capable of extending at least 8 inches into the bed of the truck and at least 8 inches into the dock as required by the National Safety Council, data sheet 1-138-Rev. 84.
