Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to a crushing hazard: a) On or about November 14, 2002, and at times prior, in the annealing furnace area the lifting device used to lift the liners was not marked with a rated load marking. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the lifting apparatus is tagged with an appropriate rated load marking in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.20a-1987. Abatement Verification: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
