Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards in that employees were subject to being struck by falling loads due to inadequate lifting devices: A.At Industrial Hard Chrome a custom-made sling device used to lift barrels, in the dock area, had no weight capacity or any proof testing performed on it. B.The spreader bar used to lift rods in the polishing area had no capacity markings. Among others, a feasible and acceptable abatement method is to comply with the American national Standards Institute (ANSI) standard B30.20 Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices and: 1.Provide the rated load on any custom made lifting device. 2.Design the lifting device to withstand the forces imposed by its rated load with a minimum design factor of 3. 3.Provide initial, frequent, and periodic inspections of the lifting devices. 4.Ensure that the initial proof testing of 125of the rated load was conducted. NO CERTIFICATION OR DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
