Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING CRUSHED BY THE EQUIPMENT: a)Tractor Shop, on or about 3/23/00: Two (2) Joyce hydraulic vehicle lifts were not equipped with an automatic mechanical device to hold the lift in the fully extended position. b)Tractor Shop, on or about 3/23/00: Two (2) Joyce hydraulic vehicle lifts were not permanently marked to show rated load capacity. c)Roll Mill, on or about 2/25/00: Elevator (Electric Furnace Co.) did not have its rated load marked on it and located in a conspicuous place inside the elevator car. ABATEMENT NOTES: 1.Ensure that all vehicle lifts are equipped with automatic mechanical devices to hold the lifts in the fully extended position per American National Standards Institute/Automotive Lift Institute, ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990, Section 4.1.11. 2.Ensure that all vehicle lifts are permanently marked to show their rated load capacity per American National Standards Institute/Automotive Lift Institute, ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990, Section 6.2. 3.Ensure that all elevators have their rated load capacity conspicuously posted in the elevator car per American Standard Safety Code for Elevators, A17.1-1965, Rule 207.3a & Rule 207.3b.
