Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of vehicles falling while working under them when using fabricated vehicle support stands that did not meet ASME PALD Standards. a) Fabricated vehicle support stands did not have their rated capacity identified as required in the General Requirements for all Portable Automotive Lifting Devices Section 1 Paragraph 1.1, and were not proof load tested to 150of the rated capacity as required in Part 4 paragraph 2.7 of the standard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to purchase and use commercially manufactured vehicle support stands the incorporate the requirements of ASME PALD. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).s
