Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: being hit or struck by crane or its components while working in or around a hydraulic boom crane due to the lack of operator training (as referenced in ANSI/ASME B30.5-1994, section 5-3.1.2. (a) Worksite located at the maintenance hangar at Hartsfield International Airport, Atlanta, GA - Employees are required to operate hydraulic boom cranes in order to remove engines from aircraft. Employees have not been assessed or tested for proficiency in crane operation as outlined in ANSI Standard ASME B-30.5-1994, Section 5-3.1.2. FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHODS OF ABATEMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS: Provide training for all employees who are designated to operate cranes in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.5-3.1.2, "Qualifications for Operators states, "Operators shall be required by employer to pass a written or oral examination and a practical operating examination unless able to furnish satisfactory evidence of qualifications and experience." "Qualifications shall be limited to the specific type of equipment for which examined." ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIREDATION
