Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of physical deformity of the crane, negative camber on south bridge girder of the C3 underhung crane: a) The south bridge of the C3 underhung crane was identified by the crane inspection(s) conducted at the plant to have a negative camber. On or about November 18, 1998 the condition was identified during this inspection. The crane continued to be operated until on or about November 23, 1998 when a crane inspection by qualified personnel confirmed the condition and revealed that continued use could result in damage to crane and/or loss of the load. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to replace the bridge girder. ANSI Standard B30.11, SAFETY STANDARDS FOR CRANES, DERRICKS, HOISTS, HOOKS, JACKS, AND SLINGS (MONORAIL SYSTEMS AND UNDERHUNG CRANES). Abatement documentation is for this item is required in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).s
