Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LOCKOUT
Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: Hazard of being struck by machinery or equipment from the unexpected energization or start up of machines or equipment. (a)County Road 189 - On October 2, 2000 the JT606 Sure Bore Machine was not locked out during the breaking of the stems to prevent the unexpected energization of the boring machine. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard would be to implement a lockout/tagout procedure as prescribed in Section 3.1.2 of ANSI Z244.1-1982, entitled American National Standard for Personnel Protection - Lockout/Tagout of Energy Sources - Minimum Safety Requirements.
