Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of being struckby or crushed by load at Delta Homes Inc: (a)Employees were allowed to stand, reach, and walk underneath hoisted loads, i.e. platforms/catwalks along the sides and ends. (Reference American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.16.1973, Chapter 16-2, Section 16-2.3.2.3(f) and Coffing Hoist Operating & Maintenance Instruction Pub. Part No. EC6890-5, Rule 32 "Do not lift loads over people".) (b) The lifting dewvices used with the Coffing hoists did not have the rated Employees without fall protection worked on roof areas installing decking and roofing material were exposed to falling approximately feet to the concrete floor. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to prohibit employees from working on hoisted loads, install underbracing to support the intended loads on the work platforms, and to use a fall arrest system for work performed on roof areas.med
