Madison Pharmacy Association was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act, which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number #300568680, Citation Number 01, Item Number 02, Issued on January 26, 2000. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to reproductive hazards associated with surface contamination and skin absorption of progesterone, estradiol, estriol and estrone: a) Data entry desk tops had 2.1 to 191.0 micrograms/100cm2 them. b) Key boards in the inventory area had: 29.5 to 1184 micrograms/100cm2 of progesterone, 0.9 to 9.1 micrograms/100cm2 of estradiol, 5.8 to 7.4 micrograms/100cm2 of estriol, 5.4 to 16.2 micrograms of estrone on them. c) The back laboratory working surfaces had: 104 to 3130 micrograms/100cm2 of progesterone, 0.9 to 2.0 micrograms/100cm2 of estradiol, 1.6 to 3.3 micrograms/100cm2 of estriol on them. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS..." 1. Develop and implement work practice to controls minimizing dust generation, such as prohibition of dry sweeping of work areas, using high efficiency purifying air filters in vacuum cleaners. 2. Develop and implementation of decontamination procedures following "dusty" procedures. 3. Develop and implementation of cleaning procedures for contaminated work surfaces.ted
