Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by crane components in the event of failure of the underhung cranes: a.Crane 601 - The crane was not properly supported in that makeshift rod was welded together as hangers. b.Crane 501 - The crane was not inspected on a periodic basis as required. c.Crane 502 - The crane was not inspected on a periodic basis as required. d.Crane 601 - The crane was not inspected on a periodic basis as required. e.Crane 601 - The rated load tests were not conducted as required. f.Crane 501 - Hazardous conditions disclosed during inspections were not corrected prior to resuming operation of the crane. g.Crane 502 - Hazardous conditions disclosed during inspections were not corrected prior to resuming operation of the crane. f.Crane 601 - Hazardous conditions disclosed during inspections were not corrected prior to resuming operation of the crane. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to comply with the requirements of ASME/ANSI B30.11-1988, Monorails and Underhung Cranes.
