Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to internal injuries, fractures, or death from possible collapse of elevated catwalks: In the following instances catwalk support towers were not properly steadied or reinforced: a)Feed Mill, Corn Bin #8 - The wire-rope guy on the end tower of the elevated catwalk was unraveled and sagging. b)Feed Mill - Most of the wire-rope clamps on the guy wires of the catwalk towers were installed improperly and in insufficient numbers. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace wire-rope guys, install new wire-rope clamps, and properly position wire-rope clamps.
