Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Located in the Mandan Farmers Elevator, Mandan, North Dakota, employees using the manlift were exposed to a potential fall hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a standard guardrail system on the manlift. (b) Located in the Mandan Farmers Elevator, Mandan, North Dakota, employees working near the landing of the manlift were exposed to a potential crushing hazard in the event of a descending manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a standard guardrail system with gate around the landing of the manlift.
