Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) An employee was exposed to a crushing hazard below the manlift in the wheat elevator of Tolstoy Feed & Grain in Tolstoy, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install adequate guardrails around the base of the manlifts. (b) An employee was exposed to a crushing hazard below the manlift in the oats elevator of Tolstoy Feed & Grain in Tolstoy, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install adequate guardrails around the base of the manlifts. (c) An employee was exposed to a crushing hazard below the manlift in the first elevator to the east of the main elevators of Tolstoy Feed & Grain in Tolstoy, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install adequate guardrails around the base of the manlifts. (d) An employee was exposed to a crushing hazard below the manlift in the second elevator to the east of the main elevators of Tolstoy Feed & Grain in Tolstoy, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install adequate guardrails around the base of the manlifts.
